Longboards were replaced with stand-ups at the Malfunction Surf Festival today, with day two action completed in clean 2-3ft (0.75-1m) waves at Kingscliff.

The Greenline Open Pro division kicked off proceedings, with six Round 1 men's heats completed before the women hit the water for first round heats.

Former ASP World Tour competitor Luke Egan (Coolangatta, Qld) was at his powerful best this morning, throwing plenty of backhand spray on his SUP to easily beat Geoff Breen (Noosa).

Egan, the former ASP World number 2 rated surfer (2000), is an avid SUP surfer, leading the multitudes that are taking to this sport and making it one of the fastest growing sports globally.

Egan backhand blasting to a two-wave winning total of a 10.00, which included a pair of solid 5's.

Tweed Heads watermen Beau Nixon, who is more accustomed to a longboard, showed some flair to upstage Tully St John (Sunshine Beach) and Kingscliff legend Ray Gleave in the last heat of the SUP division.

Nixon utilised power based moves with superior wave knowledge to finish the heat with an 11.7 total, which included a 6.7 and a 5.00. St John progressing behind Nixon in second with Gleave eliminated.

Joining Nixon and Egan as Round 1 SUP winners included Dane Wilson (Noosa, formerly Cronulla), Ben Apps (Woonona), Roger Saunders (Minnie Waters) and Justin Holland (Gold Coast).

In the Greenline Pro Women's division, Shakira Westdorp (Burleigh Heads) and Emma Webb (Victoria) posted respective Round 1 wins.

Event Director Sean McKeown said he's expecting similar conditions tomorrow.
"It's looking like some fun waves and fine weather, which is pretty similar to the last few days of competition," he said.

It was finals galore at the Malfunction Surf Festival presented by Surftech at Kingscliff today, with the 28th annual event wrapping up in building 3-4 ft (1m) waves.

Under blue skies, offshore winds and larger wave conditions, Australia's top paddle surfers and racers fought it out for glory across multiple divisions.

In the Greenline Open Pro final, Kingscliff's Justin Holland defeated former ASP World Tour competitor Luke Egan (Coolangatta), Currumbin's Jackson Close and Noosa's Dane Wilson.

After a slow start, Holland unloaded a bevy of big forehand moves to notch a 5.73 and a 7.43 to finish with a two-wave combined total of 13.16 (out of a possible 20).
